Cullompton ranks as one of Devon’s top five most dangerous small towns, according to the latest statistics. Out of 403 locations in Devon, Cullompton stands as the 24th most dangerous, with a crime rate of 42 crimes per 1,000 people in 2023. This rate is slightly higher than the county’s average of 41 crimes per 1,000 residents, marking a 0.90% increase compared to the overall crime rate in Devon.
Despite these figures, Cullompton holds the rank of the 91st safest small town in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and the 5,146th safest location among all towns, cities, and villages in these regions.
A historical perspective shows that April 2018 witnessed the highest crime rate for robberies in Devon, occurring in Cullompton, with three reported incidents and a crime rate of 0.39 per 1,000 people. October 2015 and May 2014 also saw significant peaks in robbery rates in the town.
The primary type of crime reported in Cullompton during 2023 was related to violence and sexual offences, with 171 recorded incidents. This figure represents a significant decrease of 43% from 2022, which saw 302 offences.
