The streets of Cullompton were alive with festive spirit on Saturday as the town hosted its much-anticipated Autumn Festival. Running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event welcomed residents and visitors alike, celebrating the season with local crafts, food, and live entertainment, all under a backdrop of crisp, sunny autumn weather.
The festival sprawled across several key locations in town, offering a variety of attractions for all ages. At the Farmers Market, vendors showcased an array of local and seasonal delicacies, while at the Baptist Church, children eagerly participated in creative craft sessions. The Walronds became a bustling hub of activity with a craft market, and food enthusiasts flocked to the Cullompton Community Centre, where live cooking demonstrations provided culinary inspiration.
Entertainment throughout the day ensured a lively and festive atmosphere. Performances by the Cullompton Ace Majorettes, the Bradninch Millers Morris Dancers, the Crooked Tempo Samba Band, and a Bulgarian dance troupe kept attendees enthralled, each bringing its unique style to the event.
Judy Morris, the festival’s organiser, expressed her delight at the day's success. “We’ve been really pleased with the support we’ve had. It’s been a lovely day, the weather has been in our favour, and everything’s good,” she said, noting the strong turnout and diverse array of stalls.
Adding to the fun was a shop window competition, which encouraged local businesses to get creative. Salon 31 took home the top prize, impressing with their autumnal display. “People have been decorating pumpkins and bringing them along,” Morris added.
One festival-goer shared their excitement, saying: "I love coming into town on days like this. There's such a buzz with everyone coming in and a real sense of community."
Looking ahead, Morris gave a glimpse of Cullompton's upcoming events. “Our next thing here at the Walronds is our craft market on November 9, and then there’s a Christmas Market on November 14,” she said. “The town council are organising the Christmas lights celebration, which is November 23 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and we’ll be providing the Santa’s grotto.”
With a day filled with joy, local crafts, and community spirit, the Cullompton Autumn Festival was a seasonal celebration to remember.
