A road rage incident on the M5 involving an "air weapon" resulted in the arrest of a man, announced Devon and Cornwall Police. The confrontation occurred on the northbound carriageway between junctions 28 and 27 near Cullompton, around 10:10 AM on Wednesday, April 17.
According to the police, the incident began when a silver Mercedes van aggressively overtook and then cut off the victim’s vehicle. The van's driver is reported to have used profane language towards the victim before pulling alongside and allegedly firing a projectile at the victim's car. The police suspect that the projectile might have been a ball-bearing or similar object shot from an air weapon, which caused damage to the car.
The suspect, a man in his 30s from the Exeter area, was apprehended on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of unlawful violence. He has since been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Authorities are now seeking witnesses or anyone who might have relevant dashcam footage from the time of the incident. Devon and Cornwall Police urge those who can provide any information to come forward and assist in the investigation. Witnesses can contact the police through their website or by calling 101, quoting log 211 of 17/04/24.
